Inside Outside Charters Saltwater Fishing Report
| MEXICO TAKES 1ST PLACE IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The Big Game Trolling Sport Fishing World Championship was held in Mazatlan from October 24-29 where Team Mexico out-trolled the competition. Mazatlan was selected from this year's event because of the variety of species found year-round. The overall catches for the Big Game Tournament was a combined total of 57 outings totaled 4 blue marlin, 18 sailfish, 1 stripe marlin, and 509 dorado. Due to Hurricane Rick, high pressure was building over this area which increased the number of dorado and created a trash line 8-10 miles out where huge schools of dorado conjugated.
On October 23, Inside Outside Charters fleet headed out, only two days after the Hurricane and one boat landed 58 dorado (all on video under the "Catch 'Em Up" section of the website and we also streamed live that day!). The day before some sailfish were landed include the one picture above that was about 5 lbs along with some other nice sails. The main bait of choice was and still is ballyhoo, which is included in all of our package. Up to about a week ago, the trash line was still visible and the light tackle fishing for dorado was excellent.
Bottom fishing has been excellent this past week as well. Most of the boats are making a 25-30 minute run north of Mazatlan with fresh shrimp heads and landing a variety of species of snapper. Tom and Larry headed out on November 5th and landed over 300 fish on bottom. The following day, we headed out again and landed over 200 fish, mostly included snapper. Most of our fish on bottom are caught in 100-120 feet of water. It’s kind of like jigging for bass in very, very deep water.
Rooster fish are moving in to town. When fishing for rooster, live bait is the key. We’ll head out and cast net our live bait while you are in the boat, FRESH BAIT!
